• DFD Urges Fireworks Safety

    With the official start of summer behind us, we all look forward to the upcoming holiday celebrations, such as July 4th.  The parades, picnics, and fireworks displays are a yearly tradition.  However, despite being illegal in New York, consumer fireworks are easily obtained either via the internet or at roadside stands just over the border of neighboring states.  A majority of injuries involving fireworks occur in the month surrounding July 4th.   • Bond Measure Approved

    The Board of Fire Commissioners of the North Greenbush Fire District #1 and the members of the Defreestville Fire Department are grateful to the voters of the District for approving the bond and paving the way for the construction of a new fire station in Defreestville. This project will be a benefit to all resident of the Fire District as well as greatly improve conditions for the volunteers at Defreestville Fire Department.   • March 2014 Chief's Report

    North Greenbush volunteers of the Defreestville Fire Department answered 157 emergency alarms through March, including 51 during the month, according to the latest fire report by Fire Chief Raymond Swart. Chief Swart said DFD firefighters have spent more than 1,110 total firefighter hours at alarms during the year, which includes more than 363 hours at calls in March..   • FF Rootes Completes FAST Training

    Firefighter/EMT Danielle Rootes recently completed multiple advanced training courses, including Accident Vehicle Extrication, Firefighter Survival and Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) through the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control.  The latter two courses are required of active FAST team members in addition to the prerequisite Firefighter I and II certifications for interior firefighters.  FAST Teams are crews of two or more firefighters deployed to working structure fires or other hazardous incidents whose sole purpose is to rescue firefighters in distress, who may be injured, trapped or missing.  While on the fireground, the FAST team does not have other Read More

    In a show of their appreciation, residents of the Eastwyck Village retirement community have made a donation to the all volunteer fire departments that respond to fire, rescue and medical emergencies at the facility. The Defreestville Fire Department (DFD) and Wynantskill Fire Department (WFD) were each recently presented with generous donations of $400. At the beginning of March, residents at Eastwyck held a pancake breakfast as a fund raising event and on the 14th presented checks to DFD President Bill Stewart and WFD President Adam Littlefield in a ceremony in the community room at Eastwyck. Welcome to the Defreestville Fire Department website

The Defreestville Fire Department is an all-volunteer emergency services organization which partners with the Wynantskill Fire Department to provide fire suppression, rescue, and first-response emergency medical services for the North Greenbush Fire District.  The district encompasses nearly 19 square miles, and has an estimated population of 12,075 (2010 census.)  Protecting a varied mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas, as well as a section of Interstate 90, DFD is one of the busiest volunteer stations in Rensselaer County.  The department's 55 members responded to over 500 emergency calls in 2013.  History of the Department →
