  • FF Rootes Completes FAST Training

    Firefighter/EMT Danielle Rootes recently completed multiple advanced training courses, including Accident Vehicle Extrication, Firefighter Survival and Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) through the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control.  The latter two courses are required of active FAST team members in addition to the prerequisite Firefighter I and II certifications for interior firefighters.  FAST Teams are crews of two or more firefighters deployed to working structure fires or other hazardous incidents whose sole purpose is to rescue firefighters in distress, who may be injured, trapped or missing.  While on the fireground, the FAST team does not have other Read More
  • Two Firefighters Graduate

    DFD members Martin Pazos and Rob Ruffinen recently completed the Firefighter 1 course offered through the Rensselaer County Fire Chief's Association at the County Training Tower in Wynantskill. This course provides an introduction to many different areas of the fire service. Based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1001, this months-long course is considered to be a prerequisite for interior structural firefighters.  Topics covered in the course include: firefighter safety, fire behavior, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, building searches, forcible entry, ground ladders, ventilation, hose practices, and fire streams.  Candidates are also evaluated on practical applications Read More

Welcome to the Defreestville Fire Department website

The Defreestville Fire Department is an all-volunteer emergency services organization which partners with the Wynantskill Fire Department to provide fire suppression, rescue, and first-response emergency medical services for the North Greenbush Fire District.  The district encompasses nearly 19 square miles, and has an estimated population of 12,075 (2010 census.)  Protecting a varied mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas, as well as a section of Interstate 90, DFD is one of the busiest volunteer stations in Rensselaer County.  The department's 55 members responded to over 500 emergency calls in 2013.  History of the Department →
